Surprised?
Not really..
As a matter of fact, awards shows and horror movies don’t go together well. Typically, as I have discovered throughout the somewhat short tenure of my body in this life, horror movies themselves never do very well at awards shows. The Oscars snubs them on a regular basis. The critics choice is a bit different, but really good movies still do not get the accolades they deserve.
I thought IT FOLLOWS was amazing.
The real reason, in my opinion, it worked so well was the drumbeat of terror that slowly built up as the movie progress–aided by one of the best soundtracks in a horror film in 30 years. Again my opinion.
While I am on the subject, IT FOLLOWS was also particularly good because of its economic and societal commentary. The ride to Detroit scene showed how scary reality is for people on a daily basis..
I shower enormous praise on this movie, along with any other creative gems of horror that introduce themselves to the public. They can often be found hidden on Netflix. IT FOLLOWS was lucky enough to break out big.
Big but not big enough to win an award at the choice awards..
Maybe it was Ted Cruz’s fault.
