THE NEW RAND STAND: Paul filibusters the Patriot Act

randpaulIn an act of defiance tonight, Rand Paul has taken to the Senate floor for a filibuster of the Patriot Act, which expires June 1, 2015.

The news media has not been as kind to Paul as it was in the past with his filibuster. This time, he is being only mentioned with parting shots on news stations. The only place to find traditional coverage of his RAND STAND is on C-Span and its affiliated partners on radio and APPs online..

This is how the ASSOCIATED PRESS summed it up for the record in a dispatch:
Republican presidential candidate Rand Paul commandeered the Senate floor Wednesday to deliver an hours-long protest against renewal of the Patriot Act, calling the post-Sept. 11 law government intrusion on Americans' privacy. Congress faces a June 1 deadline for the law's expiration, and Paul's speech underscored the deep divisions over the National Security Agency's bulk collection of Americans' phone records, which was revealed by former contractor Edward Snowden.

"There comes a time in the history of nations when fear and complacency allow power to accumulate and liberty and privacy to suffer," the Kentucky senator said at 1:18 p.m. EDT when he took to the Senate floor. "That time is now, and I will not let the Patriot Act, the most unpatriotic of acts, go unchallenged."

The Republican party has not been enthusiastic about Paul's libertarian bent. He is challenging George W. Bush's signature accomplishment after 9/11, along with President Obama's last minute signature of an extension only a few years ago..

And he goes and goes.. and goes.
Late into the night..
Burning the midnight oil..
As only Rand Paul can: With the power of the amazing filibuster.
